Arrr matey...

Although I intially have the urge to reply "monkey! monkey!", I feel that this issue is not one that can be dealt with so hastily, relying only upon desire.

I can't deny that monkeys are great creatures, capable of many a wonderful thing. But the true life of a pirate must be considered.

Endless time would be spent upon an isolated ship. And while you are going to come across other ships to take over and steal things from, islands to find treasures upon, and be blessed with all those things only pirates are, there are going to be some rough times. We have to analyze this issue carefully.

Positive and negative qualities of each.

PARROT

+ traditional pirate companion

+ can fly to land that the pirates or ship cannot reach

+ can crack open treasure chests with beak

+ food can be provided and preserved with ease (nuts and seeds)

- squawky and annoying

- not capable of things monkeys are

MONKEY

+ able to operate tools, such as swords and canons

+ cute and provides unconditional love (or, wait, isn't that dogs?)

+ can teach it to dance, provide entertainment

- carries diseases, i'm sure

- quite possibly smarter than me
